An edition of the updated Livestock Feed Table 2004-2005 is published this year.

The 2004 edition differs from the 2003 edition with respect to the following:
  • Chemical composition:
  • On the basis of comparative analytical examination, the crude fat levels were determined for the various feed materials, without (RVET) and with prior hydrolysis with HCl (RVETh) and properly matched together.

  • Fattening pigs:
  • The NEv system has been modified in connection with the transition to the determination of the starch content by the amyloglucosidase method (ZETam) as the basis for the NEv calculation. As part of the updating of the NEv system, the terms OOS and VOOS have been replaced by the (otherwise defined) terms NSP and VNSP.

  • Broilers:
  • The digestibility figures for the calculation of the OEslk have been updated on the basis of an examination of digestibility recently commissioned by the CVB. For the calculation of the OEslk value with the updated digestibility figures, use should be made, with respect to the fat content, of RVETh for all feed materials.

  • Adult poultry:
  • The estimation formulas for the calculation of the OE value of adult poultry (OEpl) and laying hens (OElh) for barley and barley products have been modified. The ZETam content should be used from today for the calculation instead of the ZETew content.

  • Changes to the layout of the product sheet:

  • - The fact that the RVETh level must always be used from now on for the OEslk calculation while use must still be made of the RVET level in many cases for calculating other energy values, means that for many feed materials two levels of other carbohydrates (OK) must be used for the calculations: one is calculated with RVET as a deduction and one with RVETh as a deduction. These two levels are designated as OK and OKh.
    - In connection with the fact that in wet animal feeds, where applicable, a possibility has been created from today to determine intact starch (to be determined as ZETam) and enzymatic decomposition products of starch (GOS) in a single analysis pass, it has been decided to specify GOS not longer separately on the product sheet, but to replace it with the sum of ZETam and GOS and to designate this as ZETtot.

  • Tables in the category ‘Other feed materials’:

  • - Changes have been made in the various tables in the category ‘Other feed materials’ in connection with the modification of the NEv system, the updating of the OEslk system and the reassessment of the energy values of organic acids.

  • Other changes:

  • - The Explanatory Note has been amended in a number of places in connection with the changes specified.
    - ‘Brewer’s grain, pressed, fresh and silaged’ has been included in the table as a new product.
    - The chemical composition has been updated for the (via technological treatment) highly resistant protein sources for ruminants.
    - The same has occurred for a number of wet animal feeds.
