Eleven large and wild felines have recently been successfully moved from Romania to South-Africa. The animal welfare organization Vier Voeters (Four Paws) organized this gigantic project.
The animals now reside in the LionsRock park in South-Africa.
Nine cubs, an adult lion and young tiger were picked up in Romania and transported over land to Frankfurt. From there they were flown to South-Africa and taken to park LionsRock. Here the animals were released and regained their freedom. The animals all come from a different background. Some did not receive the care that they needed, because there was not enough money available. Other animals had been used as photo models, and became too large.

LionsRock is 1250 hectares in size. With the new felines included, it is now home to 46 lions, two tigers, two leopards and many other wild animals. The park was officially opened in February 2008 and offers a better surrounding to wild animals that have lived in captivity under poor circumstances. The animals in LionsRock can live in freedom and are safe for hunters.
