Exotic Animal Care and Management

Just as the title indicates, this book is about exotic animals, and specifically those kept as pets. The basic assumption is that most medical problems in exotic animals are the result of a lack of knowledge about specific animal species.
This textbook offers extensive information about the care and maintenance of exotic animals. Behaviour, housing, care and nutrition are covered for each specific species. Several (common) illnesses and their recognition and treatment are also discussed for each species, including the veterinarian perspective. Issues such as anaesthesia, the administration of medication, injection sites and how to immobilise the animals are also explained.

The first chapters contain general information about keeping exotic animals as pets, and the law. Further chapters cover small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, alpacas and llamas, and pot-bellied pigs. Illustrations, diagrams and photos contribute to the clarity of the text. Suggestions for additional books and/or articles are included at the end of each chapter.
