Handbook on Animal-Assisted Therapy: Theoretical Foundations and Guidelines for Practice

In the ten years since the first edition of this book was released, the field of animal-assisted therapy has changed considerably. This third edition includes ten completely new chapters, and the original chapters have undergone rigorous editing.
The book is divided into four parts: one on the relationship between humans and animals, two on conceptual methods for Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) and guidelines for the use of AAT, and one covering special topics. AAT with dogs, cats, birds and horses is described, as are ways that AAT can be used for very diverse conditions and patient populations, including children, families and the elderly. Both the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ of AAT are discussed thoroughly in this book, which was written in collaboration with a number of researchers with AAT experience.
